LIU WEI DI HUANG WAN is a traditional medicine for nourishing yin and invigorating the kidney. Its formula is composed of six flavors: Rehmannia glutinosa, Cornus, Chinese yam, Alisma, Poria, and Moutan Bark. In the prescription, Rehmannia glutinosa is the main medicine, nourishing yin and kidney, filling essence and blood; using dogwood and yam as adjuvants, nourishing liver and kidney, astringent essence and stopping seizures; the "three tonics" of this prescription. It is supplemented with Alisma orientalis, Poria cocos for dampness and diuresis, tree peony skin to cool the blood serum and heat, and to clear away the fire of the liver and kidney, which is the "three diarrhea" of this prescription. It can be used for both invigorating and reducing, sweet, light and peaceful, neither warm nor dry.
